Emerging Indigenous Artist Series

2024 Emerging Indigenous Artist Series

THE DETAILS

Indigenous artists are invited to apply to the 2024 Emerging Indigenous Artist Series. This series offers established and up-and-coming artists who identify as emerging and wish to participate in a curated group exhibition at the newly opened Don Dexter Gallery. This is an excellent opportunity to increase the artists’ visibility in the local arts community, especially honoring the Indigenous artists who have not yet received widespread recognition. Artworks will be exhibited at Don Dexter Gallery, Crescent Village.

Proposed exhibition dates: May 4—June 28, 2024, with an opening reception on May 4, 2024.

Submissions are welcome in ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, weaving and mixed media. We look forward to reviewing your submissions!

OWNER / GALLERIST

Emerging art is an inclusive category for artwork from artists, young and old, who have yet to achieve market or critical recognition. This can include work from young artists, up-and-coming artists, underrepresented artists, those excluded from the traditional path to recognition, or those denied or late to have the opportunity to showcase their art. Most indigenous artists struggle to find the support and opportunity to showcase their work.

Addressing this disparity, in the spring of 2024, Don Dexter Gallery will feature a collective exhibition of Emerging Indigenous Artists. This exhibition will provide a showcase for underrepresented Indigenous artists who otherwise may not have had the opportunity to participate in a featured gallery show.
