Although I am inescapably a language nerd, I also have a strong visual sense and appreciate the relationships of shape, color, and texture everywhere. I am particularly intrigued by the interface between natural and artificial.

Between sessions at Prince Puckler’s, I like to walk. Eugene is a fine town for a flaneur. I’m also glad to be equidistant here from the ocean and the mountains, both of which provide excellent antidotes for any lurking social anxiety.

Sean Bentley’s work strives to render scenes as naturally as possible, with a minimum of post-production manipulation, and he works from the esthetic that the occasional flaw that reveals the heart of the photographer.

Sean Bentley lived in Seattle until March 2020 when he relocated to Eugene. A lifelong photographer as well as poet, Sean Bentley’s visual esthetic is rooted in the abstract, and finding inspiration from the urban photography of Lee Friedlander, he specializes in apprehending beauty where it is unexpected. His travels in Italy, France, Greece, and the United Kingdom, as well as Israel and the Baltics, awakened him to the value of the strange, and the art of finding that strangeness in the ordinary.
